STEWARDSHIP

My reason for seeking election to the position of District 6 Forest Preserve Commissioner can be summed up in one word: Stewardship.

All community services - including Forest Preserve Lands - ultimately belong to the general public. Management of Forest Preserve Lands should be accountable to you: The citizens of DuPage County. Accountability means careful attention to balancing asset management with utilization needs so that our precious preserved lands remain available for YOUR use. Not only now but into the future so that our children's children can continue to enjoy the Forest Preserve Lands that we have today.

Over the past 20 years, the DuPage County Forest Preserve District has focused on land acquisition. While purchase of available land must remain a function of the Forest Preserve District, caring for our existing land must now become an equal priority. This is why, in April of 2009, I organized a community effort to oppose the existing Forest Preserve Board's plan to build a 28,000+ square foot fleet maintenance building in the McKee Marsh area of District 6.

As a small business owner who has managed non-profit, service-oriented businesses for over 35 years, I bring a fresh mentality of balancing land acquisition with maintenance and stewardship of existing land. Most importantly, my personal and professional experiences have taught me the importance of balancing organizational needs with the needs of the community.
